It’s a well-known fact that you cannot edit posts on Facebook. Or can you??
*[UPDATE: On September 27th, 2013, Facebook started allowing editing of posts. Read about it here.]*
Yes, that’s right, you read the title clearly. You CAN edit posts on Facebook, which is great for all those little typos I make. The only caveat is that you can only edit posts with a photo attached, or photo posts.
At least it’s something, right? Here’s how to get it DONE:
How To Edit Facebook Photo Posts
- Step One: If you notice a typo or mistake with your post (as long as it’s a photo post), click on the photo in the post, as shown below.
- Step Two: Once you click on the photo, you will notice an ‘Edit’ button. Click it!
- Step Three: Once you click ‘Edit’, you will be able to change any of the text (including any embarrassing typos) associated with your photo, as well as where the photo was taken and dates (highlighted in yellow below). When you’ve updated your text and information, hit ‘Done Editing.’
Pretty Simple For Facebook, Right?
That should do it! Perhaps you already knew this little hidden Facebook feat, but if not, ENJOY!
Hopefully in the future Facebook will let us edit ALL of our posts, like GooglePlus. But for now, I’ll settle for this – especially since the majority of our posts on Facebook include a photo.
If you know any Facebook hidden gems or shortcuts, be sure to share them in the comments section below! And be sure to follow B Squared Media on Facebook for more tips and tricks on all things social.
See you in the social sphere!

Great tip and graphical tutorial, Brooke. Hoping that Facebook will roll out the ability to edit text posts soon.

Thanks, Robin! I’m sure most people already know this little trick but I thought it might be beneficial to those who don’t. And, YES! I really hope Facebook makes that change soon, too.
Love this. I always forget this feature. Thanks for the reminder! 🙂
Thanks so much, Dorien! 🙂 Happy to help.
Awesome information, Brooke – it’s definitely a step in the right direction for Facebook. For some reason, it seems to be the only platform where I mess up…and then have to delete the entire post just to fix a little typo. Thanks for passing this along…and let’s hope it catches on!

Thanks, Jenn! I haphazardly figured this out a while back and recently thought – WHY HAVEN’T I SHARED THIS?! I’m sure most socially savvy peeps knew about it already, but I really hope EVERYONE gets this message. I make little typos all of the time and I’m so glad for this little “cheat” when I do!
Brooke, this is a great post; it’s one I’ll forward to my clients today! Facebook is frustrating and confusing for many small business owners but clear, simply worded posts like these really help.
Thank you SO much, Sian! I agree – if only Facebook came with a manual. Very happy to hear that this article will help you and your clients, and appreciate you stopping by to say so. 🙂

This is no longer possible, is there another way??
Hi Dave! This *IS* still possible as long as the post is a photo post. Just click on the photo and follow the instructions above. The post will have to be on a FB page you own, and be a photo post for the above directions to work. Hope that helps!
